Bergamot 'Croftway Pink'(Monarda 'Croftway Pink')Herb in 1 Litre Pot
Bergamot or Bee Balm as they are also known are a lovely addition to the border and 'Croftway pink' is a lovely example. This erect perennial has green oval toothed leaves, that are highly scented and will form a lovely bush in mid summer. The stunning tubular claw shaped flowers are produced in fabulous whorls , like fancy crowns, usually with red-tinged bracts. These can be quite show stopping, and the flowers can last well into autumn, dead-heading will help prolong the show.
Croftway pink has a distinctive bright pink colour, as the common name bee balm implies they will attract butterflies and bees to the garden in great numbers.
Preferring moist soil, these prairie plants will add lovely colour to any border. Cut back in Autumn to ensure good growth in the spring. Plants can be divided in the Autumn every three years or so.
Herb Usage
Bergamot is probably most recognised as the flavouring for Earl Grey Tea, the leaves produce the same aroma and essential oils have been derived from the plant which are used for their calming effect.
