Centaurea cyanus (Cornflower Blue) Herb in 9cm Pot
The Blue Cornflower was once a common site in all corn-fields in the UK sadly it is not so much of a common site today. It is well worth growing for its piercing bright blue flowers with ruffled petals which appear from early to late summer . This annual is perfect for naturalising in a sunny wildflower meadow or scattered among the borders of a cottage style planting scheme. It is a hardy annual, easy to grow in well drained soil and full sun. It will flower from June - September. Enjoyed by butterflies and bees the blooms make good cut flowers which also dry well.
Herb Usage
The flowers of the cornflower have been used in herbal medicine and are considered to have a tonic and stimulant effect and was once commonly used as an eyewash, however today little emphasis is put on this particular flower for herbal use. The flower petals are edible and have a clove-like taste can be scattered on a salad if desired. We recommend this hardy annual for its ornamental qualities.
