Calamint is an erect, bushy plant with square stems, this perennial has soft grey foliage, downy with soft hairs.
The flowers bloom in July and August, and are a very pretty mauve/pink. A hardy perennial, propagated by seeds or by cuttings of side shoots in cold frames in spring, or by division of roots in October and April. It prefers a sunny position in well-drained soil.
Herb Usage
Calamint was commonly used as a medicinal herb in medieval times, though is little used by modern herbalists. It is sometimes cultivated as a medicinal herb for household use. The whole plant is aromatic, diaphoretic and an expectorant.
