Mentha requienii is a native of Europe, but has been naturalised worldwide. Corsican mint has a peppermint taste, but due to its small size, is more of an ornamental plant than a culinary one. Corsican Mint prefers, moist partly shady areas,. It does not like to dry out.
Corsican mint is a ground cover and produces tiny purple flowers, growing no higher than 1/2" (12mm)
Herb Usage
Corsican mint is used in the preparation of Creme de Menthe The traditional formula steeps dried peppermint or Corsican mint leaves in grain alcohol for several weeks (creating a naturally green color), followed by filtration and addition of sugar.
