Bronze Jacobs Ladder 'Purple Rain' (Polemonium yezoense 'Purple Rain') Herb in 1L Pot

An unusual form of Jacob's Ladder, this plant forms a lush mound of ferny foliage in a stunning bronze-purple shade, later becoming green. Upright stems of dark violet blue flowers appear in late spring (April-May).  Cut back after flowering to enable a a possible second flush of blooms in the autumn.   Polemonium yezoense 'Purple Rain' is a hardy and vigorous garden plant it likes a position with full sun or part-shade, It is a good choice for mixed borders or woodland gardens. 

Herb Usage

In days gone by the original Jacobs Ladder was used in herbal medicine for its diaphoretic, astringent and expectorant qualities; an infusion of the root being considered useful in coughs, colds, and bronchial and lung complaints, producing copious perspiration. This particular variety has been developed for its foliage and flower and has no known medicinal use.

    Plant arrived well packaged but disappointingly titchy in size. I have planted it in my border, but maybe should have kept it potted in the greenhouse? Time will tell.
