Rosemary-Leaved Cotton Lavender 'Edward Bowles'(Santolina pinnata subsp. neopolitana 'Edward Bowles') Herb in 1 Litre Pot.
Rosemary-Leaved Cotton Lavender 'Edward Bowles' is a native of the Mediterranean region. This hardy evergreen shrub prefers light well-drained soil and a sunny position, and once established will produce a showy display of green foliage which is pinnate ie like needles and looks similar to rosemary. It has pale yellow button flowers in mid to late summer. Remove the faded flower-heads along with any straggly shoots in autumn. In early-spring cut back the flowered shoots to within 2.5cm of the old growth. This is probably the toughest of the cotton lavenders hardy to -15 but It may require some frost protection in particularly exposed sites and does not like to get water-logged. Given the right conditions it will grow into a compact, rounded shrub with dense, well-branched, aromatic foliage approx 70cm tall.
Herb Usage
The leaves have a chamomile like aroma, and the dried foliage is used to blend in herbal tobaccos, and both leaves and flowers are a favourite in pot pourri. Dried cotton lavender leaves are a successful moth deterrent.
