Comfrey

A valuable herb with deep roots which generates high levels of nutrients in the leaves which in turn are used as a compost accelerator when combined with water make a first class fertiliser.
A poltice made with the leaves is applied to broken limbs to speed the healing process, hence the common name "Knit Bone".
Apart from Comfrey Bocking 14, which is considered the most productive variety, there is also Comfrey caucasicum a blue flowered variety; Comfrey uplandicum 'Moorland Heather' with a purple flower; Comfrey ibericum the dwarf variety of which 'Hidcote blue' and 'Hidcote pink' are popular.
