Allium

Allium (Onion) are a large genus of around 700 species. Most herb gardens have Allium schoenoprasum (Chives) which is a distinct herb with long tubular leaves and pretty pink flowers, other Alliums that are also seen in the Herb garden are Garlic Chives with white flowers and Garlic bulbs.

With distinct smell and flavour the Alliums are very popular culinary herbs at meal times, being very versatile, bringing strong flavours to many dishes and used as a garnish for salads, soups and sandwiches.

Alliums are easy to grow, thriving in most types of soil, in full light. Alliums range in sizes from tall herbs such as the Tree Onion to small dwarf plants Silver Chimes Chives, Alliums flowers can be purple flowers, blue flowers, white flowers and pink flowers.

With a selection of Alliums it is possible to have colour in the Herb garden all year round. We have an extensive range of Allium plants for sale, grown at our Staffordshire herb nursery to achieve this.
