Some Herbs may be too tall for our standard packaging and will be trimmed to fit. This will not be detrimental to the plant but will mean that these herbs will flower later in the year.
The Blister packs used to protect our beautiful herbs during transit are made from 100% recycled plastic and can be recycled kerbside.
Narrow Leaved Sage, or Salvia lavandulifolia is a small perennial evergreen plant with woody stems. It is sometimes also referred to as Spanish Narrow Leaved Sage.
Native to the Mediterranean region, though it has naturalized in many places throughout the world, Narrow Leaved Sage has a long history of medicinal and culinary use, and in modern times as an ornamental garden plant.
Narrow Leaved Sage grows to approximately 60-70cm tall and wide, with lavender/violet flowers in late spring or summer. The leaves are oblong and grey-green in colour, with a textured surface on the upper side, and nearly white underneath due to the many short soft hairs.
Preferring light, well-drained soil and full sun, Narrow Leaved Sage will often flourish all year, and should have leaves to harvest for much of the year.
Growing Narrow Leaved Sage is very rewarding as the scent as you brush the leaves is intense, growing from seed needs patience as seeds can take a little long to germinate but in warm light conditions after 21 days seedlings will appear. We have found that a soaking sage seeds in water helps germination rates and time.
Sow March for an early start indoors, in a seed tray sow onto the surface of moist well-drained seed compost at 20°C. Grow on in cooler conditions after germination occurs or sow directly where they are to flower from May. Sow 3mm deep in rows 30cm apart into finely prepared soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. When large enough to handle thin to 30cm spacing.
As a culinary herb, Narrow leaved Sage has a much stronger aroma than its more common cousin and a stronger peppery taste. It is used to flavour fatty meats in the form of stuffings and sauces, and also adds flavour to soft cheeses and pickles.
Our Narrow Leaf Sage Seeds are availiable to buy online all year round.
