Some Herbs may be too tall for our standard packaging and will be trimmed to fit. This will not be detrimental to the plant but will mean that these herbs will flower later in the year.
The Blister packs used to protect our beautiful herbs during transit are made from 100% recycled plastic and can be recycled kerbside.
Everybody knows Coriander for its use in Asian cuisine the seed of which is also well worth harvesting too. A small white cluster of flowers appears in summer, which will mature to become the seed. The weight of the seed may require staking of the plant, but the effort is worth it as the flavour and fragrance of home-grown seed is far superior to anything available commercially. The seeds will have a citrus aroma, which will indicate maturity, at which point the entire seed head can be harvested and stored in a paper bag.
Sow seeds into a single pot or module cell. Cover seed with vermiculite. Maintain 19'C. Germination takes 7-20 Days. Plant out when large enough to handle. Sow directly into light well-drained soil, in a warm site, and thin out when large enough to handle. Does not like to be moved. You can start coriander off from seed outside anytime in early summer. Prepare the soil well, choosing a fertile, open site in full sun. Sow seeds thinly in shallow, 1cm (½in) deep, rows and cover lightly with soil. Thin seedlings when large enough to handle to 15cm (6in) apart.
As a plant, this delicate annual, growing to 60cm, prefers to grow from seed without disturbance of the tap root. Producing a fuller leaf at the base and a fern-like leaf at the apex, Coriander will bolt and go to seed if it is not continually harvested for leaves.
Early watering is recommended, and a warm sunny position is a must to ensure healthy and robust growth. It is ideal to ensure continued availability of fresh leaves, that a system of rotational planting is employed sowing every 3-4 weeks.
