Echinacea 'Eccentric' is also known as a cone flower it has a narrow leaf, and sports a showy red flower-head, produced from early to late summer. These unusual flowers have a large central cone of double disc florets surrounded by short,  florets which droop downwards away from the cone making an attractive alternative to other varieties and great if you want a collection of a few Echinaceas throughout your planting scheme. The flowers have a scent of honey they are very attractive to butterflies and bees and makes an extremely attractive cut flower. It is a beautiful perennial plant this Echinacea variety is perfect for the summer flower border, prairie style planting or the dry garden. It is drought tolerant, although water in the first year until established and prefers full sun and a free-draining hummus rich soil. If you cut back the stems as the flowers fade it can encourage a second flush of flowers or if you prefer they can be left in place as they can look attractive as dried seed heads.

It is said to have antiviral, anti-fungal and antibacterial properties. This variety is grown purely for its decorative flower heads.
