Echinacea purpurea 'Magnus Superior'is also known as a cone flower it has a narrow leaf, and sports a daisy-like, conical pink/magenta flower in summer, with a scent of honey they are very attractive to butterflies and bees and makes an extremely attractive cut flower. It is a beautiful perennial plant this Echinacea variety is perfect for the summer flower border, prairie style planting or the dry garden. Echinacea is an attractive plant not out of place in the herbaceous border at all and can grow to be 1m tall. It is drought tolerant, although water in the first year until established and prefers full sun and a free-draining hummus rich soil. If you cut back the stems as the flowers fade it can encourage a second flush of flowers or if you prefer they can be left in place as they can look attractive as dried seed heads.
Echinacea purpurea 'Magnus Superior' or coneflower is grown for the roots and rhizomes, which are lifted in autumn and used in healing preparations. Echinacea purpurea 'Magnus Superior' and angustifolia is native to North America and has long been used by native Americans as wound-herbs, the angustifolia varietyit was the plant traditionally used in herbal medicine although today the 'pupurea' version is also used some say it is inferior to the angustifolia variety, but it was the variety developed by the Europeans primarily for use in herbal medicine, as the extract of which is said to ward off the common cold and flu by boosting the immune system. It is said to have antiviral, anti-fungal and antibacterial properties.
