Curry Plant (Helichrysum italicum) Herb in 9cm Pot
As the common name suggests, the leaves of the Curry Plant smell strongly of curry when brushed, making this an excellent aromatic to place along paths or walkways.
The narrow, silvery-grey leaves of this dense plant are very attractive, and the small, everlasting, bright yellow flowers it produces in summer are a delight, and as they keep their colour when dried, can be used for arranging.
Helichrysum italicum prefers a sunny, sheltered position on well-drained soil, soil can be poor to moderately fertile, but protect from winter wet and cold dry winds, if you live in a cold area then it may be advisable to take cuttings of shrubby species in summer and overwinter in frost-free conditions. Regular pruning is necessary to maintain a compact plant.
Herb Usage
The essential oil of the Curry Plant is said to be anti-bacterial.
