Oregano 'Hopley's' is an extremely aromatic herb, native to the Mediterranean and Southern Europe, Oregano is closely related to marjoram. Oregano 'Hopley's' prefers a sunny site and does not particularly enjoy prolonged wet winters, but its hardy nature means it can remain evergreen through the winter months. Cut back old, flowered stems in early spring to obtain a new fresh flush of leaves and to maintain shape. Growing up to 60cm tall and preferring light well-drained soil, this variety has long heads of purple-pink flowers in late summer and autumn, which cascade over a mounds of fragrant, small green pointed leaves that turn reddish-purple in autumn. The flowers hold their colour when dried and are very attractive to butterflies and beneficial insects. Ideal for the front of a border in your herb garden or herbaceous border, a rock or gravel garden,great as an edging plant and good ground cover, it's also happy in a container a really pretty plant and tough too.

It is also characteristic of many Greek dishes (particularly lamb). Oregano's flavour is enhanced with drying and is often sprinkled liberally on pizzas.
