Golden Marjoram (Origanum vulgare 'Aureum') Herb in 9cm Pot
This herb has a fabulous smell and is a worthy addition to the herb garden. With an upright habit, Origanum vulgare 'Aureum' produces highly aromatic downy, round, bright golden leaves, and can grow to 30cm x 30cms. Golden Marjoram prefers a dapple shaded position out of full sun which can burn the golden leaves. Golden Majoram needs a well-drained soil and can be planted in containers where it will thrive if it is trimmed regularly to encourage new growth and keep a good shape. Small pink flowers are produced in Summer.
Herb Usage
Used in culinary dishes especially Mediterannean style food, Marjorum has a much more delicate flavour than its close relation oregano the leaves of which are more likely to be dried and stored. Golden Marjoram is used extensively in Greek and Italian meat dishes, soups, stuffings, tomato sauces and pasta, the leaves are generally used fresh where they are best used towards the end of the cooking process. Leaves can also be used to flavour oil and vinegar.
