Lungwort 'Blue Ensign' (Pulmonaria 'Blue Ensign' ) Herb in 9cm Pot
Lungwort 'Blue Ensign' is a semi-green perennial with dark green spotted leaves and clusters of funnel shaped pink or red flowers which turn violet or bright blue creating a multi-coloured effect in the spring. It makes excellent ground-cover for a shady spot. Ideally situated in moisture retentive soil, this plant also lends itself to under-planting shrubs, woodland gardens and informal cottage-style planting schemes. Lift and divide large clumps every three to five years after flowering or in autumn.
Herb Usage
As its common name suggests historically this plant was thought to be beneficial to for treating lung diseases as it was thought the spotted leaves resembled diseased lungs ! Whilst we can not vouch for it's healing properties it is a very pretty and useful shade tolerant ground cover plant.
