Thriving in summer heat, Sage ‘Raspberry Royale’ produces a generous display of vivid magenta flowers which bloom atop a compact and vigorous plant from May to November. It is a form of Salvia x jamensis, a complex hybrid involving the cross of three or more species which is found naturally in areas of Mexico.
These tender perennials form bushy clumps of small, elliptical foliage which is evergreen to semi-evergreen. The leaves are borne on branched, woody-based stems with root readily when they touch the ground. Loose spikes of flared, tubular, two-lipped flowers appear above the foliage throughout summer and autumn, and are irresistible to bees.
The Ideal time for cutting back flowering shrub sages, is the spring once new growth can be seen from the base and risk of frost has past. Cut up to half the plant back shaping as needed. If Sages are becoming leggy then a light summer cut may be required to encourage flowers and new growth. Dead heading the old flowers will encourage new flowers all season.
Sage 'Raspberry Royale' is grown as a decorative border plant this sage is not renowned for culinary or medicinal use. It is best grown to admire the striking floral display which is also popular with pollinating insects.
Our Potted Sage 'Raspberry Royale' herb plants are generally available to buy online between March and September.
