Sage Narrow-leaved (Salvia lavandulifolia) Herb in 1 litre Pot

Narrow Leaved Sage, or Salvia lavandulifolia, is sometimes also referred to as Spanish Narrow-Leaved Sage. Native to the Mediterranean region, From rocky and stony places in the mountains of Spain comes this compact, aromatic, shrubby perennial. With small, narrow, downy, whitish-grey leaves, it bears in mid-summer short, elegant spikes of pale violet-blue flowers. It likes a sunny position and it is a particularly effective plant to grace a dry stone wall or a gravel garden. Sage has a long history of medicinal and culinary use, and in modern times as an ornamental garden plant, its flowers are highly attractive to bees and butterflies.

Narrow Leaved Sage grows to approximately 60-70cm tall and wide, Preferring light, well-drained soil and full sun, Sage will often flourish all year, and should have leaves to harvest for much of the year. It can be used as a herb in much the same way as Common Sage.

The Ideal time for cutting back flowering shrub sages, is the spring once new growth can be seen from the base and risk of frost has past. Cut up to half the plant back shaping as needed. If Sages are becoming leggy then a light summer cut may be required to encourage flowers and new growth. Dead heading the old flowers will encourage new flowers all season. A delightful plant for the garden and herb border.

Herb Usage

Sage has been used for centuries as a culinary herb, Sage has a slight peppery taste, and is used to flavour fatty meats in the form of stuffing and sauces, and also adds flavour to soft cheeses and pickles.

Lovely strong looking plants. It's been too cold to plant them outside yet.
