Mountain Sage 'Pink Blush' (Salvia microphylla var. microphylla 'Pink Blush') Herb in 9cm Pot

Mountain Sage 'Pink Blush' as the name suggests has beautiful vibrant pink flowers on long flower stems over aromatic stiff, green foliage. Mountain sage, is a frost hardy perennial, growing up to 1.2m tall, along with all the Salvia microphylla varieties it originated in the mountain regions of Central America, and thus prefers warmer climates than we traditionally experience in the UK. However, Mountain Sage  'Pink Blush' like its counterpart Blackcurrant Sage, can still thrive here if given protection from cold and excessive wet in the winter.

Mountain Sage 'Pink Blush' will flower from spring through to early autumn, and although Frost Hardy it may be a good idea to take cuttings if you live in the far North in case of a a severe winter. As with all Salvia's it has aromatic green leaves but in the Microphylla species or mountain sage. or baby sage, as it is commonly known these are smaller than in the common sage. A great addition to the garden Mountain Sage  'Pink Blush' prefers a sunny spot flourishing in a well drained border or in a large pot.

The Ideal time for cutting back flowering shrub sages, is the spring once new growth can be seen from the base and risk of frost has past. Cut up to half the plant back shaping as needed. If Sages are becoming leggy then a light summer cut may be required to encourage flowers and new growth. Dead heading the old flowers will encourage new flowers all season.

A delightful plant for the garden and herb border. Mountain Sage 'Pink Blush' is such an attractive plant that most who see it, wish they had one in their garden!

Herb Usage

Sage has been used for centuries as a culinary herb, Mountain Sage 'Pink Blush' is grown as a perennial herb plant primarily for its flowers, which are highly attractive to bees and butterflies. A beautiful plant

Posted by Lena on 24th May 2019

The flowers of this plant look extremely attractive and I cannot wait to see it in bloom. The plant was lovely and healthy and I intend to plant it at the back of my border where it will be in company with other Salvias which I have. I have ordered from Hooksgreen before and their standard is excellent. I will be ordering again in the future should I need anything further.
