Green Cotton Lavender (Santolina rosmarinifolia subsp.rosmarinifolia) Herb in 1 Litre Pot.

Green Lavender Cotton,  Green Rosemary-leaved cotton lavender or holy flax as it is also know as is a native of the Mediterranean region. This hardy shrub prefers light well-drained soil and a sunny position, it dislikes winter wetness. Once established it will produce a showy display of vivid green foliage which is pinnate ie like needles which look similar to Rosemary hence its name. It has bright yellow button flowers in mid to late summer. Remove the faded flower-heads along with any straggly shoots in autumn. In early-spring cut back the flowered shoots to within 2.5 cm of the old growth. It may require some frost protection in particularly exposed sites. Given the right conditions it will grow into a compact, rounded shrub with dense, well-branched, aromatic foliage approx 46 cm tall. This variety is useful for ground cover or as an edging plant for the herb garden or sunny border.

Herb Usage

The leaves have a chamomile like aroma, and the dried foliage is used to blend in herbal tobaccos, and both leaves and flowers are a favourite in pot pourri. Dried cotton lavender leaves are a successful moth deterrent.
