As all 3 plants I ordered are not yet in flower - I cannot comment on the appearance. However the plants are in very good condition and already growing well. I am very pleased with the quality and price.

Some Herbs may be too tall for our standard packaging and will be trimmed to fit. This will not be detrimental to the plant but will mean that these herbs will flower later in the year.

This shrub Salvia has a tighter growth habit than Blackcurrant sage, (Salvia microphylla var. microphylla) although it is similar. the leaves have the distictive blackcurrant smell and the beautiful red flowers appear from spring to autumn.
As a frost hardy perennial, and growing up to 70cm high by 30cm wide, gentle pruning in autumn is advised to encourage strong growth and avoid snow damage. Salvia sp. 'Hooksgreen', along with all the Salvia microphylla varieties, originated in the mountain regions of Central America, and thus prefers warmer climates than we traditionally experience in the UK. However, it will still thrive here if given protection from cold and excessive wet in the winter. Once established in well-drained soil in a sunny site, Sage 'Hooksgreen' will put on a show of striking red flowers in summer. The fragrant leaves are small and oval shaped, and have a wonderful scent of blackcurrant . Flowering from spring through to early autumn. As with all Salvias it has aromatic green leaves.
A great addition to the garden Sage 'Hooksgreen' prefers a sunny spot flourishing in a well drained border or in a large pot. The Ideal time for cutting back flowering shrub sages, is the spring once new growth can be seen and risk of frost has past. Cut up to half the plant back shaping as needed. If Sages are becoming leggy then a light summer cut may be required to encourage flowers and new growth. Dead heading the old flowers will encourage new flowers all season.
Sage has been used for centuries as a culinary herb, Blackcurrant Sage is grown as a perennial herb plant primarily for its flowers, which are highly attractive to bees and butterflies. However, the leaves and flowers can be used in the kitchen to add a hint of blackcurrant to baking or summer drinks.
Our potted Sage 'Hooksgreen' herb plants are generally available to buy online between May and September, plant out once risk of frost has past.
