Yarrow 'Cerise Queen' (Achillea millefolium 'Cerise Queen') Herb in 1 Litre Pot
Native to Europe and Britain, Achillea millefolium is a hardy perennial that will flourish in any soil condition, but prefers light well-drained soil and a sunny position. This variety is longer flowering than some varieties from June to September and it is drought-tolerant. Try it in a sunny spot towards the back of an herbaceous border, or among grasses, do stake it, as it tends to flop due to the weight of the flower head if it gets wet. It makes an excellent cut flower too.
Being a native plant it is attractive to bees and butterflies great for a naturalistic planting scheme. Reaching heights of 60cm, Yarrow flowers from June to September, this particular variety as the name suggests produces beautiful tightly packed umbels of cerise plate-like flowers held high on tall stems, and has ferny foliage beneath which is grey-green in colour which has a distinctive smell.
Herb Usage
A traditional anti-inflammatory herb, the leaves and flowering stems are used to treat wounds and nosebleeds, indeed its generic name honors Achilles whose soldiers are said to have used the herb in treating their wounds.
