Some Herbs may be too tall for our standard packaging and will be trimmed to fit. This will not be detrimental to the plant but will mean that these herbs will flower later in the year.
The Blister packs used to protect our beautiful herbs during transit are made from 100% recycled plastic and can be recycled kerbside.
Southernwood, or Artemesia abrotanum, is a perennial woody shrub found in Europe. Southernwood is known by many other names including Oldman Wormwood, Garden Sagebrush, European Sage, Southern Wormwood, Lemon Plant and Lad's Love
It forms a bushy shrub the leaves of Southernwood are narrow and feathery, and grey-green in colour, and have a strong lemony camphor-like odour, with small yellow flowers appearing in warmer climates, and as it is easy to cultivate and care for. It is also suitable for container growing, put this deliciously aromatic plant beside a path or sitting area, so it's scent can be enjoyed as you brush past it.
Preferring light, humus rich soil and a sunny site, Southernwood will flourish in most gardens, and will require a hard cutting back in spring to keep its habit neat. It will grow up to 80cm in height.
The leaves of Southernwood have a strong lemony camphor-like odour, this resulted in it being used historically as an air freshener or strewing herb. Southernwood leaves was also used to make a tea, although it needs to be sweetened with honey as it can be bitter. The leaves can also be used in stuffing for meat and poultry. Dried leaves put into a muslin bag will keep away moths, and the leaves are also very pretty for flower arrangements. Infusions of the leaves are said to help with hairloss!
Our potted Southernwood herb plants are generally available to buy online between March and September

A beautiful healthy plant. Sent with care and now planted in the garden. I’m delighted.
Edward Thomas's lovely poem made me want to grow this herb, and I was so happy to find it at HooksGreen and to receive a nice healthy plant by post. It's growing beautifully, and I am really glad to have it in my garden. THANK-YOU!
I've been looking for this plant for a while and was very pleased to find it. It arrived promptly, in protective packaging. A few of the fronds were yellow, but there is new growth from the base and it's doing well after a week in a new pot. Very pleased.
Plant arrived on time. It was carefully packed and in excellent condition. I have potted it on into a bigger pot and look forward to watching it develop further. Thank you for the prompt efficient service.
A fine, strong plant with an excellent root system. Also, a real "blast from the past" as this is "Aipple Ringie" to a Scot - and was a staple in my parents' and grandparents' gardens in Fife. Thanks for the memories.
Beautifully packed delightful scented plant. Brings back lots of memories.
Thank you for this beautiful little Herb bush. It was packed so well and arrived quickly, I love it and hope to have many years with it .
Quick service. Southernwood arrived within a week, and was well packaged against damage. The reason for 4 stars is one of the two was a bit scrawny.
