Some Herbs may be too tall for our standard packaging and will be trimmed to fit. This will not be detrimental to the plant but will mean that these herbs will flower later in the year.
The Blister packs used to protect our beautiful herbs during transit are made from 100% recycled plastic and can be recycled kerbside.
Bergamot or American Wild Bergamot or Bee Balm as they are also known are a lovely addition to the border and Wild Bergamot is no exception. This erect hardy perennial has green oval toothed leaves, that are highly scented and will form a lovely bush in mid summer growing up to a height of 60-120cm. The stunning tubular claw shaped flowers are lilac and produced in fabulous whorls , like fancy crowns. These can be quite show stopping, and the flowers can last well into autumn, dead-heading will help prolong the show.
Wild Bergamot as the common name bee balm implies will attract butterflies and bees to the garden in great numbers. Great for a wildlife garden for this reason.
Preferring moist soil, Bergamot will flourish in full sun or partial shade, and almost any soil type. These prairie plants will add vibrant colour to any border be it informal or Cottage garden, Herb garden, Prairie planting or a Short grass meadow. Cut back in Autumn to ensure good growth in the spring. Plants can be divided in the Autumn every three years or so.
Wild Bergamot is probably most recognised as the flavouring for Earl Grey Tea, the leaves produce the same aroma and essential oils have been derived from the plant which are used for their calming effect. Used to make tea and flavour game, Bergamot has many uses, and as the leaves contain citronellol, they are also effective as an insect repellent. The foliage is aromatic, and leaves are sometimes picked for potpourri. The fresh young leaves can be used sparingly in a salad, fruit salads and fruit drinks. Bergamot has an affinity to pork and will improve the flavour of most pork dishes if added during cooking.
Our potted Wild Bergamot herb plants are generally available to buy online between March and September.

Although no flowers yet, these plants are tall, healthy and have good root systems. Looking forward to flowers.
This plant is thriving straight out of the box it arrived in. Very well packaged, keeping it safe and well hydrated. Excellent quality plant that's been well raised!

Thank you for the speedy delivery of plants ordered. plants are most satisfactory. I will be recommending you to others!
I have now ordered two of these bergamots as I adore the colour and am hoping the bees and butterflies will be attracted to them in droves. I will be planting them in full sun where they should grow and be a wonderful sight. The plants supplied were lovely and healthy and arrived within only a few days. I will definitely be ordering from Hooksgreen again.
