Thai Basil 'Siam Queen'(Ocimum x africanum 'Siam Queen') Seeds
An excellent strain, Thai Basil is a fabulous variety to cultivate indoors or on your patio in the warm summer months. A vigorous upright plant with large dark green leaves and numerous red-purple stems which have attractive violet/pink flowers, Basil Siam Queen has a spicy aniseed/liquorice aroma and flavour. Originating in warm tropical regions, Basil has become synonymous with the Mediterranean region, where the hot sunny climate allows it to thrive. It does not do well outdoors in cool Summers in the UK where we would grow it as an annual typically, it's life can be extended if it is brought indoors when the weather cools. Thai basil can be repeatedly harvested by taking a few leaves at a time and should be harvested periodically to encourage regrowth.
Ideally grown in pots or containers. Height: 30cm-60cm
Growing Instructions
Sow in pots or module trays to minimise root disturbance. Sow from February to June, or sow throughout the year inside out of season.Cover seed with vermiculite.Maintain min 15'C. Germination 14-21 days. Water early in the day.
Herb Usage
Thai basil leaves are a frequent ingredient in Thai green and red curries. Used as a condiment, a plate of raw Thai basil leaves is often served as an accompaniment to many Vietnamese dishes, so that each person can season to taste with the aniseed-flavoured leaves.
