Pot Marjoram (Origanum onites ) Herb Seeds
A lovely low-growing plant, Pot marjoram or Origanum onites, is a semi evergreen herb which has a wonderful fragrance. Oregano thrives in dry, well drained soil, as it is native to the Mediterranean, and is hardier in a sheltered position.
With hairy stems and bright green pointed leaves, Marjoram is an attractive plant for the herb garden, and is a must in any culinary garden. White flowers are produced in the late summer and are very attractive to bees.
Also known as pot marjoram, this attractive plant will grow to 60cm and cover an area of 30cm.
Growing Instructions
Sow very fine seed in pots or module trays in the Spring. Leave UNCOVERED and keep compost on the dry side. Maintain bottom heat of min 15'C.Once large enough, plant out into a site with well-drained soil, or Marjorum can be planted in containers where it will thrive if it is trimmed regularly to encourage new growth and keep a good shape.
Herb Usage
The entire plant can be harvested for oils and the pungent aromatic nature of it has a warming antiseptic property. Used particularly in Italian cooking, oregano is the fragrant addition to Pizza which gives it that aromatic authentic taste. Also found extensively in Greek and Mexican food.
