Sage 'Black and Blue' (Salvia 'Black and Blue') Herb in 1L Pot
Sage 'Black and Blue' is quite similar in colour intensity to the opulent colour Salvia 'Armistad', maybe more blue than the purple of Amistad but has the same beautiful black calyx but this new half-hardy variety is hardier and with the right care is more able to cope with our rough climate. A new addition to the available salvia range and is also known as the 'friendship sage' from Argentina. It is a strong growing plant growing up to 1m-1.5m in height given the right growing conditions. Sage 'Black and Blue' prefers a sunny spot flourishing in a well drained border in a sheltered spot. The ideal time for cutting back flowering shrub sages, is the Spring once new growth can be seen and risk of frost has past. Cut up to half the plant back shaping as needed. If Sages are becoming leggy then a light summer cut may be required. Dead heading the old flowers will encourage new flowers all season.
Herb Usage
Sage has been used for centuries as a culinary herb. Sage 'Black and Blue' is grown as a perennial herb plant primarily for its flowers, which are highly attractive to bees and butterflies. However, the leaves and flowers can be used to flavour food and drinks
