Veronicastrum Viginicum 'Lavendeltrum' Is commonly known as Culver's Root, Black root and Bowman's root. An elegant hardy perennial which is native to North America it can grow up to a height of 2m with a spread of 45cm a welcome addition for the mid to back of the border. It has finely toothed leaves with pale-lavender upright spike-like flower clusters, which appear from July. It prefers a sunny site in a well-drained soil

Culvers Root is a plant known for its medicinal qualities in fact it's common name Culver's root refers to an 18th Century American physician Dr. Culver who used the bitter, dried roots which were boiled to produce a powerful tonic. as a purgative and emetic.
